BUILDER POLICY

Custom builds, repairs and mods are where the community's heart lives. These are the standards for the builders listed on the KeyDir Application.

Scope: This document applies only to app.keydir.in and its related services.

Builders are individuals or small studios, often operating part-time. The KeyDir Application lists them to help the community find real, capable craftspeople — not to certify them.

SECTION_01 Who This Applies To

This policy applies to anyone listed in the builders section of the platform: custom keyboard builders, modding and repair services, artisans, cable makers, and related one-of-a-kind services.

SECTION_02 Becoming Listed

Builder listings follow the general rules of the Listing Policy, with additional expectations:

  • A real, reachable identity or handle — the community must be able to find you and contact you.
  • Clear description of the services offered (builds, repairs, mods, artisans, etc.).
  • Evidence that you actually build — see the portfolio requirement below.
  • No requirement to be a registered business; hobbyists and part-timers are welcome.

SECTION_03 Portfolio & Proof of Work

Because anyone can claim to be a builder, listings should be backed by work that can be seen:

  • A portfolio link (Instagram, Discord showcase, Reddit history, website) showing past builds.
  • Recent, dated work — not a single old photo reused forever.
  • Customer references where possible, and honesty about which builds are yours.

Using someone else's photos or claiming work you did not do is grounds for removal.

SECTION_04 Service Standards

  • Set and communicate clear expectations for timeline, price, and what is included.
  • Quote honestly — no bait pricing that doubles after the work starts.
  • Communicate progress. Builds take weeks; silence for months is how disputes start.
  • Handle genuine quality problems fairly — offer to fix defective work.
  • Use parts and materials as described, or say clearly when substituting.

SECTION_05 Prohibited Practices

✗Collecting payment and vanishing, or holding deposits hostage without agreed work.
✗Presenting others' work as your own.
✗Counterfeit "artisans" or selling copied designs as originals.
✗Harassing or threatening clients over honest feedback.
✗Posting fake reviews or ratings for your own services.

SECTION_06 Disputes & Flags

Builder disputes are handled like vendor disputes, described in the Vendor Policy: reports are reviewed for consistency and severity, and builders get a chance to respond. Common issues specific to builders — deposit disputes, missed deadlines, damaged goods — are weighed with the builder's history and responsiveness in mind.

Where a pattern of deposits-taken-work-never-done is reported, the listing may be flagged or removed even if each individual complaint is small in value.

SECTION_07 Removal & Reinstatement

Builders may be delisted for violation of this policy, the Acceptable Use Policy, or credible evidence of fraud. Reinstatement is possible where a builder resolves outstanding disputes and provides evidence of good-faith service going forward. Requests are reviewed through the Contact page.
